A Louis XVI style mantle clock late 19th century. Prior to the 1848 Revolution, 19th century French furniture was named after Louis-Philippe d'Orleans, having less ornamentation, carving, gilding, and bronze, and more simple, rounded lines. This beautifully modeled mantel clock is rendered in gilded bronze with sweeping scrolls, while elaborately flowing floral swags and shells adorn the asymmetric waisted shape. The dial is porcelain enamel on copper. This piece is complete with its original finely fretted gilt brass hands and convex glazed rococo bezel.
